Storyline:

The Kung Fu master travels to the U.S. where his student has upset the local martial arts community by opening a Wing Chun school.
After the death of his wife, Ip Man finds out that he has throat cancer due to smoking. Fights against a bully behind his rebellious son Ip Ching, he is expelled, and Ip decides to travel to San Francisco, the United States to search for a school. His student Bruce Lee has angered the local martial arts community in San Francisco by opening the Wing Chun School, teaching martial arts to Americans, and writing a book on martial arts. [3] He reveals to a colleague and his friend Liang General that a referral letter from the Chinese Consolidated Philanthropic Association is needed to enroll in school. Wan, the president of the association, refused to write the letter because Ip does not agree with Dadi’s opinion on Lee’s actions. After a brief fight with Wan, he is gone.
While leaving school after a meeting with the principal, he taunts Van’s daughter, Jonah, to rival cheerleader, Becky. Ipe saves her and reaches her home, with Becky cutting herself with a pair of scissors. Wan accuses Ip of using his daughter to get the letter and challenges him to fight for it. The earthquake disrupts the fight, and Vann says they will end their fight at the upcoming Midsummer Festival. Ip refuses, explaining that he took his daughter home for her safety and leaves.
